Godalming Taxis

Godalming is one of the runs we do most. We're based a few miles south in Chiddingfold, which keeps us local to the whole GU7 and GU8 patch rather than driving out from Guildford or Woking. Chiddingfold Taxis covers Godalming, Farncombe and the villages around them, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Call 01483 387 475 and we will agree a fixed fare before you travel.

Local to Godalming, not driving out from town

Plenty of the cars you can book in this town drive in from Guildford, Woking or further out, and you wait while they do it. We're based in Chiddingfold, a few miles south — close enough to be genuinely local to Godalming, and not fighting our way across the county to reach you. That matters most on the jobs where minutes count: a 5am pickup in Busbridge, a train you have twelve minutes to catch, a lift home from the Royal Surrey when you have been discharged later than expected.

It also means our drivers know the place the way locals do rather than the way a satnav does. Which roads clog at school-run time. That the one-way system around Flambard Way is not intuitive the first time. Which end of a long lane in Binscombe or up on Frith Hill your front door is actually on.

Godalming and Farncombe station runs

Godalming station is on the Portsmouth Direct line, about 34 miles down from London Waterloo, with direct trains taking roughly 40 to 45 minutes and usually two or three an hour. Farncombe, a mile or so north, sits on the same line and is a similar run into Waterloo. Neither is any fun to walk to at six on a February morning with a suitcase.

Station work is our bread and butter: the early commuter run, the pickup when the last train down from Waterloo drops you at Godalming after midnight, and the reverse, when someone arrives into Farncombe needing a lift out to Hambledon or Wormley. We take calls 24 hours a day, so a delayed train is not a problem. We would just ask you to ring us once you know the new time, rather than assume we are watching the board.

Everyday runs around the town

Most of what we do here is local and unglamorous, which is rather the point.

  • Schools and colleges — runs to Godalming College, Charterhouse and the primaries, plus the pickups when work overruns.
  • Shopping — the High Street and the Pepperpot end of town, or a bigger shop where the boot earns its keep. Ours is a red Toyota Corolla saloon with a large boot that swallows a fortnight's shopping or two big cases without an argument.
  • Hospital and surgery — the Royal Surrey in Guildford is roughly six miles up the A3100, usually fifteen to twenty minutes depending on traffic.
  • Evenings out — pubs and restaurants in town or over in Guildford, with a car home at whatever hour you finish.
  • Courier — same-day parcels and documents when something has to be there today.

A town worth knowing your way around

The Pepperpot has stood at the top of the High Street since 1814, and the plaque underneath it marks the world's first public electricity supply, switched on here on 26 September 1881 from a waterwheel at Westbrook Mill on the Wey. Not many towns can say that.

Airports and further afield

Airport transfers are our main trade. From Godalming, Heathrow is roughly 28 miles and typically somewhere around 45 minutes to an hour, traffic allowing. Gatwick is a similar distance but usually a slower drive, so we would allow an hour or more. Luton, Stansted and London City are longer again, as are Southampton and Portsmouth for cruise departures.

Those times are approximate and entirely traffic-dependent. We will talk through a sensible pickup time when you book, and we would rather set off early than let the M25 make the decision for us. We cover all Heathrow terminals, T2 to T5, and both Gatwick terminals. Tell us which one when you book.

Prices and booking

We do not publish a price list, because a fare depends on where you are going, when, and how many of you there are. Ring 01483 387 475 or WhatsApp 07453 267475, tell us the job, and we will agree a fixed fare before you travel. Nothing is metered, so nothing creeps up in traffic. Email info@chiddingfoldtaxis.co.uk if that is easier.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a 24 hour taxi in Godalming?

Yes. We answer the phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week, on 01483 387 475 — nights, weekends and bank holidays included. For a 4am airport run it is worth booking ahead where you can, but we take calls round the clock.

How much is a taxi from Godalming station?

It depends where you are going, so we do not publish fixed prices. Call or WhatsApp us with the destination and we will agree a fixed fare before you travel and stick to it. Nothing is metered.

How long does it take to get from Godalming to Heathrow by taxi?

Roughly 45 minutes to an hour for the 28 or so miles, but that is an approximation and entirely traffic-dependent — the M25 can add a lot. We plan pickup times with a margin built in rather than promise a journey time.

Do you cover Farncombe and the villages around Godalming?

Yes. Farncombe, Busbridge, Binscombe, Ockford Ridge, Charterhouse, Frith Hill and Crownpits are everyday runs for us, and we go out to Milford, Witley, Chiddingfold, Hambledon, Haslemere and the villages beyond.

Can I book a Godalming taxi in advance?

Yes, and for early airport runs and station pickups we would encourage it. Ring 01483 387 475 with the date, time, pickup address and destination — plus the terminal, if it is an airport.
